Uruguayan licenses are divided in several categories. Cars and motorcycles fall within different categories and therefore foreign licenses are only revalidated into Uruguayan car licenses unless they’re explicitly valid for both vehicles. The first license lasts 2 years. All renewals last for 10 years¹.

¹ Sooner expirations apply upon age and health conditions.
²Montevideo and Maldonado impose different requirements. The latter is less strict and has a more accessible schedule.
³ Uruguay has a strict zero tolerance law for blood alcohol since 2007, limiting it to 0.0 grams of blood alcohol while driving.⁴
⁴ Hefty fines for offenses like these can surmount to several hundreds of dollars if done repeatedly.
