It’s essential to have a Uruguayan cell phone number¹ to receive governmental updates and notifications from local entities.² Hiring a service contract will be necessary to receive monthly bills which are a prerequisite to prove your address in Uruguay in order to access banking and other highly scrutinized services.

¹You’ll only receive communications from local entities through your foreign phone number while you’re not a regular customer, client or attendee. Said entities will expect you to have a local number after you relocate in Uruguay and will only give you calls and messages to that number.
