Marriage/Birth certificate registration

You’ll need the Uruguayan equivalent of your civil status certificates (Birth, Marriage, Death, Adoption and Acknowledgement Certificates and Divorce Sentences) for Immigration, your ID and to facilitate numerous medical, financial and legal procedures.¹ Learn more about its requirements here.

All of the following services are included*:

  • Advice on required foreign documents.
  • Obtaining the required Uruguayan documents.
  • Submission of documents and information updates before the Civic Registry (via a signed power of attorney at the bottom of the required registration form).³
  • Interpreting and scheduling assistance with local offices.
  • Procurement of Uruguayan translator and notary documents.⁴
  • Free Internet and/or cellphone service setup (to receive updates and summons from the Civic Registry).⁵
  • Continous tracking of the registration process.
  • Attainment of additonal documents requested by the Civic Registry during the registration process (if applicable).
  • Retrieval and devolution of original documents.

¹There’s a significant 8-12 month backlog. Therefore it’s advisable to send the required foreign documents via shipping to finalize the process before your arrival.

²The Civic Registry’s registration fee per certificate (1320 UYU) isn’t included.

³An individual form for each certificate is obligatory to request the registration. The power of attorney is added via the representative’s signature and photocopy of their ID.

⁴A Uruguayan Notary’s Copy is required to retrieve the original documents after the registration is performed.

⁵The Civic Registry will contact you and/or your representative if any further documents must be submitted. They only call Uruguayan numbers.
