Vehicles

The ownership of a vehicle implies having multiple documents and remaining updated on tax obligations. The purchase of used vehicles is very common in Uruguay because of its small size, giving them a higher value over time in comparison to their counterparts in other countries, making them a long-lasting financial asset.

¹Uruguayan attorneys, notaries and translators are all licensed and bound to the Uruguayan Supreme Court. The last two are recipients of the public’s trust and therefore have a big responsibility for the documents they issue. Uruguayan notaries are responsible for issuing certified copies, signature certifications, sworn affidavits, proprietorship deeds, last wills, prenuptial and postnuptial agreements amongst several other documents.

²It’s obligatory to insure a used vehicle after a proprietorship transfer.

³Uruguayan law demands an Obligatory Automotive Insurance that covers third-party damages in order to use a vehicle. Additional coverage at a discount for long term plans can be arranged depending on the condition and the make and model of the vehicle.
